Gravel

#67 Rock

Ready-mix concrete, asphalt mixes and base course where a tighter grade than #57 is specified.

Very close to #57 but graded slightly smaller and tighter, running about three-quarters of an inch down to a number four sieve. The difference matters in concrete and asphalt plants, where the mix design calls for a specific gradation and substituting is not allowed.

For drainage and driveways most people will not notice the difference between #67 and #57. Where a spec sheet names #67, order #67. Where it does not, #57 is usually easier to get and costs the same here.

How much to order

Coverage per cubic yard.

One cubic yard is 27 cubic feet. How far that goes depends entirely on how deep you are laying it.

Depth1 cu yd coversYards per 500 sq ft
2 in162 sq ft3.1 cu yd
3 in108 sq ft4.6 cu yd
4 in81 sq ft6.2 cu yd
6 in54 sq ft9.3 cu yd
12 in27 sq ft18.6 cu yd

The arithmetic: length times width times depth, all in feet, divided by 27. A 40 by 20 ft area at 4 inches deep is 40 × 20 × 0.333 ÷ 27, which is about 9.9 cubic yards, so you order 10. Round up rather than down — coming up two yards short on a Friday costs a whole extra delivery.

#67 Rock — common questions

What people ask.

What is #67 Rock?

Very close to #57 but graded slightly smaller and tighter, running about three-quarters of an inch down to a number four sieve. The difference matters in concrete and asphalt plants, where the mix design calls for a specific gradation and substituting is not allowed.

What is #67 Rock used for?

Ready-mix concrete, asphalt mixes and base course where a tighter grade than #57 is specified. For drainage and driveways most people will not notice the difference between #67 and #57. Where a spec sheet names #67, order #67. Where it does not, #57 is usually easier to get and costs the same here.

How much #67 Rock do I need?

Multiply length by width by depth, all in feet, and divide by 27 to get cubic yards. One cubic yard covers 162 sq ft at 2 inches, 108 sq ft at 3 inches, 81 sq ft at 4 inches or 54 sq ft at 6 inches. The calculator does it for you and converts to tons and truckloads.

Does #67 Rock need a compaction allowance?

No. #67 Rock is placed loose rather than compacted, so what you order is what you end up with. Order your plan volume, rounded up to the next whole cubic yard.

How much does #67 Rock cost delivered?

$37.50 per cubic yard, plus a flat $200 delivery per order across Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade. Minimum order is one cubic yard.

What does #67 Rock weigh?

About 1.35 tons per cubic yard. A tri-axle carries roughly 18 cubic yards or 22 tons, whichever it reaches first, so a full load of #67 Rock is about 16.3 cubic yards.
