Common questions

Everything people ask.

Quantities, compaction, truck sizes, delivery and pricing. If your question is not here, call dispatch and ask.

How do I work out how many cubic yards I need?

Multiply length by width by depth, all in feet, then divide by 27. A 60 by 12 ft driveway at 3 inches deep is 60 x 12 x 0.25 / 27, about 6.7 cubic yards, so you order 7. One cubic yard covers 162 sq ft at 2 inches, 108 sq ft at 3 inches, 81 sq ft at 4 inches, or 54 sq ft at 6 inches.

Do you sell by the ton or the cubic yard?

By the cubic yard. Plans are drawn in cubic yards, and selling by the ton forces a density conversion that differs for every material. Rock runs about 1.35 to 1.4 tons per yard, compacted base closer to 1.65, topsoil nearer 1.15. We quote the unit you measured in.

What is the minimum order?

One cubic yard. There is no truckload minimum. For scale, a cubic yard is roughly 54 bags from a home centre, several car trips and a long afternoon.

How much is delivery?

A flat $200 per order across Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade, charged once regardless of order size.

How fast can you deliver?

Next business day on most orders placed before noon on a weekday.

What is a compaction allowance and do I need one?

Base and fill materials lose roughly 20 percent of their loose volume once they are watered and properly rolled, so you order 20 percent more than the plan volume. Loose-placed materials such as washed stone, pea rock and topsoil get no allowance. Our calculator applies it automatically based on the material you pick.

How many cubic yards fit on a truck?

About 18 cubic yards on a tri-axle, but weight binds first on heavy material. A truck is capped at roughly 18 cubic yards or 22 tons, whichever it reaches first. Limerock at 1.65 tons per yard hits the weight limit at about 13 yards.

Where will the driver put the load?

Wherever you point, within reason. A loaded tri-axle needs roughly 60 feet of straight backing room and 14 feet of overhead clearance. Tell us about gate codes, low branches, overhead lines or soft ground when you book and the driver plans for it.

What gravel is best for a driveway?

Four inches of compacted road base limerock or recycled crushed concrete underneath, then two inches of #57 rock on top. Asphalt millings instead of stone if you want a surface that knits hard. Pea rock is the wrong choice because it is rounded and will not lock together.

What stone goes in a French drain?

Washed #57 rock. The washing matters because any fines will migrate down and clog the voids the drain depends on. Wrap the trench in non-woven geotextile or it silts up within a year or two.

What is the difference between #57 and #67 rock?

Both are washed roughly three-quarter-inch stone. #67 is graded slightly smaller and tighter, which matters in concrete and asphalt mix designs. For drainage and driveways the difference is not noticeable and they cost the same here.

Do you work with contractors?

Yes. Multiple loads a day to one site is routine, and repeat accounts get net terms, consolidated invoicing and a direct dispatch line. Call rather than using the online ticket for anything over five loads.

Is the online price the final price?

It is a close estimate built from published per-yard rates plus the flat delivery fee. Dispatch confirms the final number and your delivery date before the truck rolls.
